Avalanche Preserve Recreation Area

Boyne City has a 300-acre nature preserve that has hiking, mountain biking, and many other pleasures. During the winter months, you can skate, sled, snowshoe, and even snowmobile. The preserve is pristinely cared for in a natural way so nothing is disturbed but the paths themselves. There are new additions regularly and you might even find a few left over berries along the way.

Houghton Lake Trails

The largest inland lake has 22,000 acres of fishing fun during the warmer months. In the winter, it is a winter wonderland for snow mobilers. You can snowmobile along the lake and enjoy the long distance views or look the other direction to enjoy trees and homes that have popped up around the lake.

Wilderness State Park Trails

Ride around the 10,000-acre Carp Lake with 26 miles of shoreline views. Trails break off from there and you can go by rustic cabins and other sites that you certainly don’t get to see everyday.

White Fawn Lake Trails

This area is just 11 miles south of Munising in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. There are a lot of cabins around the lake so you can park your snowmobile right outside where you are staying to interrupt your ride for as little time as possible when you need a break.

Watersmeet Trails

This trail runs from the U.S. Forest Service visitor center to Land O’Lakes in Wisconsin. The trail goes cross-country through beaver ponds, forests, open areas, and clear cuts. You get every type of view possible and can enjoy a beautiful ride on a clear day.

Wetzel State Recreation Area

You can do a little of everything at this New Haven location. There are plenty of activities available, but the snowmobile paths are the best. You can’t camp here, but there are 900 acres of trails to enjoy for as long as you are in the area.
