How to Clean Motorcycle Leather Gloves

\"Leather\"If you have a good pair of leather motorcycle gloves, you want to maintain them properly so they last as long as possible. Leather gloves can get brittle and crack if you do not clean them properly and often. You will want to make sure you clean your gloves in the right manner so you do not damage them and instead get the job done well. Here are some tips on how to clean leather motorcycle gloves.more

Determine Need

Before you clean your gloves after every ride, you need to look them over and determine how often you need to clean them. If you ride on a daily basis, you will probably build up enough dust and dirt to warrant a cleaning every two weeks. If you ride less often, you might want to clean them once every few months. For infrequent riders, even once a season can work. Think about how often you ride and how dirty they get.

Grab Leather Cleaner

You will want to investigate a few different leather cleaners to ensure that you are getting a good quality cleaner. You will not need a large amount so buy a small bottle and if you like it, you can get more.

Apply the Cleaner

Once the gloves need a cleaning, apply a small amount of cleaner to the glove with a soft, clean washcloth. You can wear the glove on the proper hand and clean with the other hand in order to make it easier to get into the contours of the glove. Work your way over the entire glove.

Dry the Gloves

After the gloves are clean, you will want to lay them on a clean towel or cloth in an area that has good ventilation. They can air dry and settle into their new clean state. It is a good idea to keep them out of direct sunlight or other heated areas while they dry.

Condition Gloves

Leather gloves will also need occasional conditioning. Leather comes from animal hide and, much like human skin, it can get dried out and crack. If you wash and dry your gloves frequently, you will start to notice they are more dry than they used to be. Investigate different conditioners and follow the directions on those products. You may want to condition the gloves every other cleaning or perhaps just once a season. When you clean the gloves, you remove oils and conditioning puts the oils back in.

Wear Them

Once the gloves are cleaned, dried, and conditioned, you can start using and wearing them again. Keep an eye on how often you wear them and how dirty they get in order to judge when they need to be washed again. You don’t want to wash them too frequently and dry them out but you also don’t want them to get too dirty.
